Aswan University, under the leadership of Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman, President of Aswan University, and in the attendance of Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Aziz Mehallal, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, participated in the activities of Egyptian public universities to address climate change. This event was held under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. Ayman Othman emphasized the importance of the university’s participation in this forum entitled “Activities of Egyptian Universities to Address Climate Change.” This aligns with the universities’ contributions to the international conference hosted by Egypt next November, which will involve countries from around the world under the patronage of Republic President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi. The aim is to present scientific research in this field, which can effectively address climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Mahallel noted that the university contributed several scientific studies related to the environment and climate, including “Ancient Climate Changes as an Analogue to Current Global Warming: A Study of Ancient Climate as a Guideline to Confirm the Expected Scenario of Current Warming.” This project aims to understand past climate changes and their outcomes to provide solutions for current warming.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another project is “Modeling Surface Runoff to Improve the Use of Flood Water as an Additional Source for Water Storage,” which aims to model flash floods as a natural hazard resulting from climate change and enhance water use to increase storage in remote areas.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research explained that the university participated in several projects, including “The Environmental Impact of Rock Mass Depletion Due to Mining Operations: Utilizing Earth Science Techniques to Identify Natural Hazards Resulting from Rock Mass Depletion through Mining and Its Environmental Impact.” Additionally, there is a project focused on “Mitigating the Impact of Climate Change on the Ecosystem of Lake Nasser and Biodiversity,” which aims to improve methods that help mitigate the effects of climate change on the Lake Nasser ecosystem. There is also a project for producing smart LED lamps, which aims to create energy-efficient LED lamps at low costs, in order to achieve the National Climate Change Strategy 2050 and preserve the rights of future generations.<\/span><\/p>\n
