Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman, Aswan University president, stated that the Career Development Center at Aswan University has conducted a discussion meeting (the sixth round table) entitled “Emerging Changes in the Nature of the Labor Market Amid the Global Economic Crisis and Their Impact on Employment Opportunities” across various sectors in Aswan Governorate. The event took place in one of the halls at the Information Technology Institute, Aswan branch. Many business owners participated in the sixth round table, along with representatives from more than 12 institutions and organizations operating in the governorate across all fields. The event was attended by Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Aziz Mohallal Orabi, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, Dr. Amal Abdel-Wahid, a representative from the American University in Cairo, and a distinguished group of Academic staff, students, and representatives from the labor market in Aswan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. Othman added that the Career Development Centers project at Aswan University is part of the career development centers established at Egyptian universities, implemented by the American University in Cairo and funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. It was inaugurated in 2019 on the university campus in New Aswan to serve students and facilitate their connection to the labor market.<\/span><\/p>\n

The university president praised the significant role played by the center in building capacities for students and graduates by providing services required by the community to achieve comprehensive development in the city, and working to prepare graduates to acquire the skills demanded by the labor market. He emphasized the importance of participation and collaboration between Aswan University, various institutions, business owners, and sectors within the university that strive to empower youth to become entrepreneurs and business owners. The center has gained high trust from several companies and institutions that request it to recommend, select, and conduct initial interviews for students and qualified graduates seeking employment or practical training opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Aziz Mohallal explained that the round table addressed several key topics, including identifying the emerging changes in the labor market amid the global economic crisis concerning existing and newly created jobs, understanding the mechanisms of work and employment during the economic crisis in Aswan, studying future trends regarding expected hiring in the business sector in Aswan in general and in the field of information technology in particular, and exploring opportunities for collaboration between the business sector and the university, represented by the Career Development Center at Aswan University. It also aimed to identify the main aspects of practical training programs from the perspective of the business sector to support graduate skills in the aftermath of the economic crisis, as well as discussing ways and opportunities for collaboration between the business sector and the university through the Career Development Center at Aswan University.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Shaimaa Kamal, the employment officer at the center, highlighted the key recommendations of the round table, including the importance of providing training in language skills as one of the essential job skills required, alongside training in personal development areas. She stressed the need for a mechanism to access all available job opportunities in Aswan Governorate and to launch a practical training program for university students and graduates in collaboration with institutions and companies in Aswan.<\/span><\/p>\n
