{"id":38343,"date":"2025-04-20T07:48:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-20T07:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aswu.edu.eg\/en\/?p=38343"},"modified":"2025-04-23T07:56:59","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T07:56:59","slug":"an-economic-window-that-opens-promising-prospects-for-egyptian-exports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aswu.edu.eg\/en\/an-economic-window-that-opens-promising-prospects-for-egyptian-exports\/","title":{"rendered":"An economic gateway opening promising Prospects for Egyptian exports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>On the sidelines of the Third Economic Forum of Faculty of Commerce at Aswan University<\/strong>, held under the patronage of Prof. Loai Saad El-Deen Nasrat, President of Aswan University, Prof. Omar Salman\u2014Professor of International Economics, former Dean of Faculty of Commerce at Helwan University, Rapporteur of the Permanent Scientific Committee for Economics and Finance, and Head of the Economics Department at the Military Faculty of Administrative Sciences for Armed Forces Officers\u2014made a statement that drew attention to major economic opportunities for Egypt on the African continent.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\">Prof. Salman stated:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\">\u201cAfrica imports nearly $700 billion annually from around the world, while Egypt\u2019s exports to the continent amount to only $7.5 billion out of Egypt\u2019s total exports of approximately $45 billion.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\">This figure reflects a massive trade gap and a yet untapped economic opportunity. According to Salman, Egypt has all the components necessary to expand its exports to Africa by over an additional $25 billion, particularly in light of the growing demand for food products, agricultural goods, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and building materials.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333399\">The Golden List of Egyptian Products in Demand in Africa by 2025:<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\">These products, with high export potential, fall into the following sectors:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;list-style-type: disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Food and agricultural products<\/strong>, <strong>and<\/strong> <strong>agricultural crops<\/strong>: Potatoes, onions, citrus fruits, peanuts, sugar, and pasta\u2014high demand in East and West Africa. Also, vegetable oils like corn oil and sunflower oil.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Construction and infrastructure materials<\/strong>: Iron, cement, ceramics, marble, and granite.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Chemical products<\/strong>: Fertilizers (urea and nitrates), detergents, hygiene supplies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Pharmaceuticals and medical supplies<\/strong>: Generic drugs, medical consumables.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Ready-made garments and textiles<\/strong>, supported by free trade agreements with African countries.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\">Prof. Salman also added that the following countries are expected to be Egypt\u2019s most significant export markets in Africa by 2025:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;list-style-type: disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Sudan<\/strong>: Sugar, medicines, cement, pasta, ceramics.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Libya<\/strong>: Building materials, furniture, food products.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Kenya<\/strong>: Fertilizers, electrical devices, sugar\u2014benefiting from the COMESA agreement.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Nigeria<\/strong>: A massive consumer market needing pharmaceuticals and chemicals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Ghana<\/strong>: Clothing, ceramics, cosmetics.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Tanzania and Uganda<\/strong>: Food, detergents, plastics, medicines.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\"><strong>Ethiopia and C\u00f4te d&#8217;Ivoire<\/strong>: Building materials, medical supplies, food products. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"color: #333333\">Government Support and Agreements Paving the Way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\">Prof. Omar Salman emphasized the importance of working simultaneously on several fronts to ensure the success of the export expansion plan, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;list-style-type: disc\">\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\">The African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\">Export support programs.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\">Improving logistical infrastructure: roads, ports, and shipping lines\u2014<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"font-family: Cairo;font-size: 16px;color: #333333\">to strengthen the role of commercial representation and export councils.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id='gallery-1' class='gallery
