They weigh the uneaten food after removing all the inedible waste, including the bones and fruit peels. The same process is followed in all Aswan University dormitories.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">This process is repeated during lunch hours every day for a week until AUND estimates how much food undergraduate students in Aswan waste while eating in the dining hall, or even in the dormitory dining halls.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000080;font-size: 14pt\"><strong>Aswan University is working to exploit all its resources in the food production process<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p><ol style=\"text-align: justify\"><li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Where the university has special <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;text-decoration: underline\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/aswu.edu.eg\/en\/about\/organizational-structure\/education-and-student-affairs-sector\/university-hostel-administration\/nutrition-administration\/nutrition\/food-security\/food-security-program\/the-capabilities-and-infrastructure-for-the-purpose-of-research-and-experiments-for-the-faculty-of-agriculture-and-natural-resources\/\">farms to produce natural plant foods<\/a><\/span><\/span> (vegetables &#8211; fruits) completely <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a style=\"color: #000000;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/aswu.edu.eg\/en\/services-aswu\/community-services-aswu\/service-units-aswu\/research-unit-for-the-study-of-tropical-plants\/achievements-of-research-unit-for-the-study-of-tropical-plants\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;text-decoration: underline\">free from synthetic herbicides or artificial<\/span> fertilizers<\/a>,<\/span> which are the basic conditions to produce sustainable healthy food<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The university also has farms for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;text-decoration: underline\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/aswu.edu.eg\/en\/about\/organizational-structure\/education-and-student-affairs-sector\/university-hostel-administration\/nutrition-administration\/nutrition\/food-security\/food-security-program\/the-capabilities-and-infrastructure-for-the-purpose-of-research-and-experiments-for-the-faculty-of-agriculture-and-natural-resources\/\">animal production<\/a><\/span><\/span> (meat &#8211; poultry &#8211; fish).<\/span><\/li><\/ol><ul style=\"text-align: justify;list-style-type: disc\"><li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Where different types of food are selected with a high degree of quality<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">The university is also concerned with the proper transportation and storage of foodstuffs.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">As the basic conditions for food waste are not available at the university, which makes the opportunity to exposed to the process of food waste 100% impossible.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000080;font-size: 14pt\"><strong>Amount of food waste generated from food served within the university:<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">Aswan University measures the amount of food waste generated by the food provided within the university, to reduce food loss and waste to create a world free of hunger and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 2 (eliminating hunger) and Goal 12 (ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns).<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">In the academic year <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;text-decoration: underline\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/aswu.edu.eg\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/report-on-university-resutrant-waste-20192020.pdf\">2019\/2020<\/a><\/span> <\/span>the average amount of food waste in the university per day was 3 m3\/day of waste generated by the central restaurant.<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\">In the academic year <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;text-decoration: underline\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;text-decoration: underline\" href=\"https:\/\/aswu.edu.eg\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/\u062a\u0642\u0631\u064a\u0631-\u0627\u0644\u0645\u062e\u0644\u0641\u0627\u062a-2020-2021-1.pdf\">2020\/2021<\/a><\/span><\/span> , Aswan University implemented Immediate actions and interventions to reduce food waste\u00a0<strong>(Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)<\/strong>:<\/span><\/p><ul style=\"text-align: justify;list-style-type: disc\"><li style=\"text-align: justify\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>Tray-less dinning<\/strong><\/span>: Trayless dining means less food waste, decreasing water and chemical use, and reducing electricity consumption. We have already started trayless dining in almost 90% of all dining halls at Aswan University; this has contributed to a reduction of approximately 38% of total food waste.<br
