Aswan University builds new buildings to sustainable standards according to the national standards, which were given by “Egypt Green Building Council” (Egypt GBC).
The (Egypt GBC) was founded in 2012. Its vision is to lead community transformation for Egypt and to become a beacon of sustainability and green building. Its mission is to make green building mainstream, creating momentum by raising public awareness and creating a shift in professional practice about sustainability and green building through its different programs.
- Furthermore, the goal of The (Egypt GBC)is to save scarce energy, water and material resources, which will have a positive economic impact for users and reduce subsidy costs for government, resulting in a better quality of life for all.
- The (Egypt GBC) provides the green building classification system (GPRS) which includes the following items:
- The sustainable construction system – the optimum engineering composition for the building height.
- Green construction and use of natural green materials.
- Natural ventilation system.
- Natural illumination system.
- Durability with minimal maintenance.
- Compatible with the surrounding environment.
Aswan University has implemented a “Green Building Policy”, which explains the standards we have set to achieve energy efficiency and follow these standards in all renovations and new buildings to be green buildings by 2030. In the “Desert City Campus” and the “New Aswan Campus”.
For example, the new sustainable buildings in the “new campus in Aswan” are (the terraces building, the services building, and the Faculty of “Commerce, Literature, Nursing, Social Work, Tourism, and Hotels)”. Moreover, the new sustainable buildings in the “Desert City Campus” are (Faculty of Agriculture, and Administrative Building). Those new buildings (natural ventilation system, natural lighting system, durability with minimal maintenance, and compatible with the surrounding environment) were achieved.
