Aswan University developed a sustainable commuting strategy to promote and changing the culture of daily transportation for faculty staff, their assistants and university employees, improving their physical and health fitness and encouraging them to use active mobility methods instead of relying on automated transportation that consumes fuel and pollutes the environment.
Therefore, the university develops a strategy for the “A Bike for every Student” project launched by the Ministry of Higher Education within the Ministry’s plans for sustainable mobility.
This strategy aims to support a good and cleaner social and environmental climate, and to increase the demand for physical exercise and races between different groups within Egyptian universities.
Objectives:
- Work to encourage walking to and from the campus according to the distance, for example – to and from the College of Education and Specific Education Complex, College of Engineering and Commerce complex.
- Sustainable Mobility Strategy
- Encouraging the use of university buses to travel to and from the university
- Providing special bicycle paths covering all areas of the university to be used as an environmentally friendly means of commuting or practicing sports, for example – the Sahara campus, the New Aswan campus, and others.
- Provide adequate “park” storage places.
- Provision of maintenance units and spare parts.
- Organizing monthly festivals and events inside the university.
- Participation in a festival at the university level for each semester
- Aswan University undertakes some actions to promote more sustainable commuting by the following:
- Provision of subsidized buses for staff.
- Provision of bicycle parking & storage facilities.
- Provision of bicycle tracks.
- Provision of pedestrian tracks.
In October 29, 2020 Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghallab, President of Aswan University, participated in the cycling marathon, which was organized by the Faculty of Physical Education
Where Dr. Ahmed Ghallab confirmed that this marathon is being held within the framework of the initiative of the President of the Republic under the slogan “Sports is a national security” and confirmed on the state’s keenness on paying attention to sports and fitness for university students and working to activate student activities.
