Aswan University makes an exceptional return to the ranks of global universities in THE Impact Rankings 2025

In a strong comeback after missing last year’s round, Aswan University has regained its advanced position in the British Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025 for sustainable development, reaffirming once again that it is one of the world’s leading universities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Aswan University ranked among the top 300 universities globally in the 201–300 category out of 2,318 universities included in this year’s ranking, securing the following positions:

  • 2nd among Egyptian universities
  • 6th among African universities

This performance is considered one of the strongest in both the Arab and African regions, especially after the university had dominated the ranking nationally and continentally for three consecutive cycles from 2021 to 2023, before missing the previous cycle due to exceptional circumstances beyond its control.

The university ranked among the top universities globally in 10 out of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and achieved remarkable progress in precise indicators measuring the institution’s impact in education, environment, society, and partnerships, most notably:

  • SDG17 – Partnerships for the Goals: 11th globally, 1st in Egypt, 3rd in Africa
  • SDG11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities: 36th globally, 1st in Egypt and Africa
  • SDG2 – Zero Hunger: Ranked 101–200 globally
  • SDG3 – Good Health and Well-being: Ranked 101–200 globally
  • SDG13 – Climate Action: Ranked 101–200 globally
  • SDG7 – Affordable and Clean Energy: Ranked 201–300 globally
  • SDG4 – Quality Education: Ranked 201–300 globally
  • SDG1 – No Poverty: Ranked 301–400 globally
  • SDG5 – Gender Equality: Ranked 801–1000 globally
  • SDG10 – Reduced Inequalities: Ranked 801–1000 globally

Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Mehallal Orabi, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research and supervisor of the International Ranking Office, stated that these exceptional results reflect Aswan University’s commitment to implementing an integrated institutional vision based on societal impact, environmental balance, and international cooperation, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He added that this achievement enhances the university’s position on the global higher education map as an academic institution with a responsible orientation, actively contributing to sustainable development locally and globally.

On this occasion, he extended his sincere congratulations and appreciation to the university president, vice presidents, academic staff, supporting staff, workers, students, and all members of the academic community, emphasizing that this achievement would not have been possible without collective institutional efforts, organized teamwork, and a deep commitment to the university’s vision toward global excellence and sustainable development.
