The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced the issuance of a ministerial decree appointing Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Mehlal Orabi as Acting President of Aswan University. In a step that confirms the state’s confidence in distinguished national competencies
and its support for academic leaders capable of continuing the path of development and excellence within Egyptian universities.
This appointment comes as a culmination of a distinguished academic and administrative career. Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Mehlal currently serves as Vice President of Aswan University for Graduate Studies and Research. He previously served as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and has led the university’s international ranking system since 2018, contributing to Aswan University’s successive achievements and remarkable progress in global rankings, thus solidifying its position among Egyptian and international universities.
Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Mehlal is one of Egypt’s most prominent engineering scientists, ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide. He has published over 240 scientific papers in prestigious international journals and has successfully secured funding for research and applied projects that have bolstered the scientific research and innovation system. He has also received numerous prestigious awards and honors, most notably the First Class Order of Merit in Science and Arts, the State Award for Excellence, and the State Incentive Award in Engineering Sciences.
Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Mehlal, Acting President of Aswan University, affirmed that this esteemed trust represents a national duty and a great responsibility. He expressed his sincere appreciation to Prof. Abdel Aziz Qonsoua, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, for this confidence, which will serve as an incentive to continue his work and achievements.
Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aziz stated, “I am honored by this great trust, and I pledge to continue working with all members of Aswan University in a spirit of teamwork to maintain our achievements and launch a new phase of academic and research excellence. This will enhance the university’s standing both locally and internationally, and serve the state’s goals of human development and achieving sustainable development.”
He added, “The next phase will witness the continued development of the educational process, support for the scientific research and innovation system, strengthening international cooperation, and improving services provided to students and researchers. This will be done while maintaining Aswan University’s progress in global rankings, in line with the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research and Egypt’s Vision 2030.”
He concluded his statement by emphasizing that Aswan University will continue its scientific and national mission as a leading academic beacon in southern Egypt, and that the next phase will witness further institutional work, innovation, and excellence, keeping pace with the Egyptian state’s aspirations to build universities that compete regionally and internationally.
