Today corresponding to 16th Jan. 2020, the Monthly Meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities was held in Aswan university, Aswan Al Gadeda headquarters headed by the minister of higher education and scientific research Prof. Khaled Abd Al Ghaffar in the presence of Aswan university president Prof. Ahmed Ghallab Mohammed, the general secretary of SCU Dr. Mohammed Latif, the universities’ presidents as well as the higher education and scientific research leaders.
In this context, the minister of higher education thanked Prof. Ahmed Ghallab on hosting the Council and congratulated him on the university’s new headquarters at Aswan Al Gadeda and on Aswan National Day.
The minister thanked Dr. Amr Adly, the previous deputy minister of higher education for universities’ affairs on his considerable efforts during his work term. He welcomed Prof. Ayman Ashour, the new deputy minister for universities’ affairs and congratulated him on his new position wishing him all the best.
The minister stressed on the comprehensive development in the Egyptian universities in several themes like university mechanization, promoting the technological infrastructure, social engagement as well as taking part in development. He praised the efforts exerted in improving curricula and regulations, exams systems and rating the answers electronically in all universities.
Prof. Khaled Abd Al Ghaffar ordered to quickly implement President Sisi’s directions to organize programs for visiting archaeological sites. He entrusted Dr. Maged Negm, Helwan university president, to form a committee to follow up this affair. He stressed on increasing the number of students in the scientific departments; science and math as they form the base for development in the contemporary society. In this context, the SCU launched the initiative of Science-up to raise the basic sciences in the fields of math and physics in the faculties of science as a first stage. He ordered the Academy of Technology and Scientific Research to execute the initiative in cooperation with the committee of basic sciences of the Supreme Council of Universities for the significance of that vital sector which produces 30% of the total universities’ scientific production.
In the same context, Aswan university president Prof. Ahmed Ghallab valued holding the meeting in Aswan university headquarters.
In the meeting, a documentary was presented. It showed the amount of improvement that took place in Aswan University which included the surge in facilities and new projects in addition to the advanced ranks among the world universities.
During the meeting, the manager of the electronic and informative services center in the SCU introduced a report on the operational steps of electronic exams in the academic year 2019/2020. The report clarified the completion of developing a geographical information system (GIS) in the ministry of higher education in cooperation with the universities’ CIOs.
In the name of the Supreme Council of Universities, the minister of higher education thanked the teamwork of the SCU’s electronic services center on its success on preparing the geographical information system (GIS) in Egyptian universities in no time. It should be noted that the aforementioned system will help the decision-makers in being versed in the distribution of the faculties and the scientific departments in all geographical regions in addition to providing all needed information about every Egyptian university.
The council stressed on its decree no. 649 of 22nd June 2016 issued in a previous meeting that the certificates granted by compact e-learning system through its various programs are vocational ones.
The council initially approved on the request of Zagazig University to establish Al Sharqeia National University. It referred the request to the committee of establishing private and national universities to scan it thoroughly.
The council approved on forming a committee to discuss the mechanisms and criteria to select the best engineering faculty or institute in order to promote the educational level for graduating alumni who are in line with the scientific development and meeting the labor market demands.
The council reviewed the report of community service and environmental development sector 1st July – 31st Dec. 2019. The report showed the universities’ positive role in holding convoys (medical, agricultural, nursing), the efforts exerted in Literacy and implementing the initiative of “Egypt’s Handicrafts”
The council was notified with the minister’s decree to amend the implementing regulation of Universities Organizing Law to rename the faculties of industrial education to the faculties of technology and industrial education in the universities of Beni Seuf, Helwan, Sohag, and Suez.
The council was notified with the rules to be followed when signing agreements, memoranda of understanding and cooperation protocols with foreign universities.
The council approved on spreading the guide of dealing with the disabled that was prepared by the Institute of Special Needs Sciences, Beni Suef University in all Egyptian universities.
After the conclusion of the meeting, the minister witnessed the meeting of Leaders Preparing Institute headed by his Excellency and with the membership of the governmental universities’ presidents to discuss the agenda.
