11.4.9 Building on brownfield sites

Redeveloping a Brownfield site not only boosts the economy by creating jobs and lifting property prices, but it improves the environment and creates a safer, healthier space. Another more significant benefit of redevelopment of brownfield, that it can be cheaper because vital infrastructure (drainage, electricity, roads, transport networks etc.) already exists.

In 2019, Aswan university has built new dormitories for its   students, and new accommodations for its staff and employees. These new buildings have been built on brownfield sites, which were previously owned by the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company.

Brownfield Sites: –

  • Dormitories in the Airport Road, in front of the Faculty of Energy Engineering.
  • Staff Accommodations in the Camp Site, near Aswan Dam.
  • Dormitories in the road of the High Dam, in front of the Friendship Statue
  • College of Nursing, where its campus was renovated from an old building called Gambia.
