As part of the global “16 days to combat violence against woman,” held annually from November 25 to December 10, the Anti-Violence Unit at Aswan University, in cooperation with the South Free Foundation, announces the launch of a campaign entitled “Safe University Environment” under the slogan “Awareness, Prevention, Protection.” This initiative comes within the framework of implementing the protocol signed between the South Free Foundation and Aswan University.
This initiative aligns with ongoing national efforts to reduce violence against women by strengthening legislative frameworks and national strategies aimed at empowering women and promoting the principle of equality, while ensuring a safe and inclusive environment that respects all members of the community.
It is worth noting that anti-violence units within Egyptian universities—established as part of the National Strategy (2015–2020)—have focused since their inception on awareness, support, protection, and effective interventions. Their aim is to create a university climate free from violence and discrimination. These units also contribute to achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the National Human Rights Strategy.
In its first year since the establishment of the Anti-Violence Unit at Aswan University, the unit is proud to announce its adopted internal regulations and policies, which uphold gender equality, ensure empowerment, and combat all forms of violence and harassment. These policies aim to create safe spaces on campus that reflect the university’s commitment to protection and equality standards.
The campaign focuses on raising awareness among all members of the university community about their rights to work and study in an environment free of fear and discrimination. It also highlights the various forms of gender-based violence and discrimination, while informing individuals about available protection mechanisms, regulations, and procedures within the university to ensure safety and support. Moreover, the unit seeks to showcase its role in addressing violence and discrimination through receiving reports and providing psychological, social, and legal support, with full confidentiality and survivor-centered safety.
The campaign aims to enhance knowledge of the rights of women and men within the university community and to provide safe channels for reporting and receiving all forms of support. It also focuses on developing internal policies and practices that contribute to creating an educational environment that encourages participation and empowerment. Additionally, the unit aims to build effective partnerships with various faculties and administrative departments, as well as strengthen its media presence to ensure its message reaches and to provide necessary resources to beneficiaries.
We invite you to follow the campaign’s activities, which will include seminars, awareness events, and regular publications introducing protection and reporting mechanisms. These efforts aim to reinforce a culture of gender awareness as a key foundation for creating a safe and violence-free university environment.
