A Carbon-Free Future: Commitment to Net-Zero Emissions
Introduction:
Aswan University takes an unwavering stance on environmental sustainability and recognizes the urgent need to address the global challenge of climate change. In line with our overarching Sustainability Policy and Climate Action initiatives, we proudly commit to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050. This comprehensive commitment encompasses Scope 1, Scope 2 emissions reduction by 60% by 2030, and a significant 30% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by the same timeline.
Our Net-Zero Pathway:
1. Scope 1 and Scope 2 Emissions Reduction by 2030:
- We pledge to cut our Scope 1 emissions, which includes direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the university, by 60% by 2030.
- Similarly, we commit to a 60% reduction in Scope 2 emissions, which covers indirect emissions from purchased electricity, heating, and cooling sources by 2030.
- Achieving these targets will require a comprehensive review of our energy consumption, adoption of renewable energy sources, and implementation of energy-efficient practices across our campuses and facilities.
2. Scope 3 Emissions Reduction by 2030:
- Our commitment extends to addressing Scope 3 emissions, which encompass indirect emissions along our value chain, including transportation, procurement, and waste.
- By 2030, we aim to reduce our Scope 3 emissions by 30%, reflecting our dedication to minimizing our environmental impact beyond our immediate operations.
