Aswan University President receives Mahmoud Mosallam to discuss the impact of TikTok on adolescent girls’ mood

Prof. Loai Saad El-Deen Nasrat, Acting President of Aswan University, today received journalist and writer Dr. Mahmoud Mohamed Mahmoud Mosallam, a lecturer at the Faculty of Language and Media at the Arab Academy for Media and Technology, along with the members of the examination and evaluation committee. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the discussion of a master’s thesis at the Faculty of Specific Education, Department of Educational Media, at the President’s Office on the Sahari campus.

In this context, the Department of Educational Media at the Faculty of Specific Education discussed a master’s thesis in Radio and Television, submitted by researcher Rania Abdel Nabi Abdel Wahab Abdel Mageed, entitled “Adolescent Girls’ Exposure to Short-Video Applications (TikTok) and Its Relationship to Their Mood State”. The discussion was held at Ahmed Fawzi Hall at the Faculty of Specific Education, Aswan University, with distinguished academic and media attendance.

Prof. Loai Saad El-Deen Nasrat affirmed that Aswan University places great importance on research studies related to contemporary societal issues, particularly those addressing the impact of digital media and social networking platforms on children and youth. He noted that this thesis represents a significant scientific addition in the field of educational media and contributes to a deeper understanding of the effects of modern digital applications on adolescents’ psychological well-being.

For his part, journalist Dr. Mahmoud Mosallam expressed his pleasure at participating in the examination committee, praising the high quality of the thesis and its rigorous scientific treatment of a current media issue. He emphasized that serious scientific research in the field of media has become an urgent necessity in light of the widespread use of short-video applications and their growing influence on adolescents’ behavior and overall mood.

Researcher Rania Abdel Nabi explained that the thesis aimed to monitor and analyze the nature of adolescent girls’ exposure to TikTok and study its effects on their mood state. She expressed hope that the findings would support educational and media decision-makers in developing awareness mechanisms that reduce negative impacts and enhance the positive aspects of using these platforms.

The examination and evaluation committee included: Prof. Mohamed Moawad Ibrahim, Professor of Media, Faculty of Graduate Studies for Childhood, Ain Shams University, Chair and Discussant, Dr. Mahmoud Mohamed Mahmoud Mossalm, journalist and lecturer at the Faculty of Language and Media, Arab Academy for Media and Technology, Member and Discussantو, Assoc. Prof. Hisham El-Fouly Abdel-Moez, Member and Supervisor, Assoc. Prof. Hossam Fayez Abdel-Hay, Member and Supervisor.

At the conclusion of the discussion, the committee decided to award the researcher the Master’s degree, amid an atmosphere of joy and happiness among attendees and the researcher’s family, in appreciation of her scientific effort and the distinction of her research work.
