2.5.4 purchase of products from local, sustainable sources

Aswan University prioritizes purchasing products from local and sustainable sources and put this as a condition in the policy we put for sustainable food the contract and provision of food and products from providers outsourced the University.

The university did not stop at external service providers only, Aswan University always seeks to harness all its capabilities to achieve self-sufficiency in sustainable food to meet the needs of students, staff, faculty members and the local community, through the food security program offered by the university, which includes

  1. Our Sustainable Food Policy which ensures that the University meets high environmental and socially responsible standards for food served and operations, and encourages and promotes healthy eating among students and staff.
  2. Agricultural greenhouses, where the College of Agriculture sells greenhouse products to students and university employees, such as (cucumber – pepper – eggplant – strawberry – melon – beans …. etc.).
  3. The bakery unit at the Faculty of Agriculture
  4. The farm of the College of Agriculture that was reclaimed on Airport Road on an area of ​​52 acres for the cultivation of palms, grapes and some medicinal plants, and the cultivation of 9 acres of lemon and orange trees to fill the shortage of these fruits.
  5. The new food strains that were produced by the Research Unit for the Study of Tropical Plants
  6. The university works to support and increase the productivity of fisheries through the work of the fish hatchery project
  7. Allocating (9) acres for animal and poultry production as an educational research farm. They aim at providing production to serve the local market in Aswan Governorate in the faculty farm at Unaiba
