17.4.4 Sustainability Literacy

 
Sustainability literacy is the theoretical knowledge that allows someone to understand the intricate relationship and conflicts between humanity, development, the environment, and natural resources.
 
Aswan university works upon sustainability literacy step by step, which integrated and prioritized effectively in Aswan University Strategic plan which has been reviewed and then approved to continue its terms for 2022/ 2023 by the University Council, also the university had its own Sustainabilty policy, This policy outlines the commitment to sustainability and sets the path towards achieving ambitious goals, including the implementation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
 
Also, our university has Specific Courses on Sustainability because of its responsibility towards the students and the wider society to educate future professionals who are ready to meet our global social, economic and environmental challenges. 
 
Aswan University has established a Sustainable Development and Climate Change Control Unit by Resolution No. 1039 dated October 20, 2022 issued by Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman_University President, which includes the formation of the Unit’s Board of Directors headed by Prof. Mohamed Abdel-Aziz Orabi_Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research_ The Board of Directors also includes The unit director (a member of Academic staff) and five members of the council are from university Academic staff.
 
One of its goals is to encourage university students to participate in the various activities of the unit. Sustainability Literacy Assessment (SLA) is a method for evaluating students’ skills, knowledge, and attitudes about fundamental sustainability concepts. It designed to evaluate the students’ understanding of sustainability-related concepts and themes. Also, it is administered to the entire student body.
 
On the other hand, Aswan university launched several policies related to sustainability.
