Collaboration between Aswan University and the Drinking Water Company to Support Research and Community Service

Aswan University witnessed the signing of a joint cooperation protocol with the Aswan Drinking Water and Sanitation Company, aimed at strengthening the partnership in the fields of scientific research, exchange of expertise, and the implementation of joint training programs and community activities.

The protocol was signed by Prof. Loay Saad El-Deen Nasrat, Acting President of Aswan University, and Eng. Amer Kamal Abu Halawa, Chairman of the Board of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company in Aswan, in attendance of a select group of university and company leaders. Attendees included Dr. Mohamed Abdelaziz Mehallal, Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research, Dr. Ashraf Emam, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, along with Eng. Maryam Alayan, Director General of Research and Development, and Chemist Mostafa El-Mot’ani, Director of Climate Change and Environment Department at the company.

Prof. Loay Saad El-Deen Nasrat emphasized that, within the framework of strengthening institutional cooperation between higher education institutions and service entities, Aswan University is always keen to enhance collaboration with national partners who play an active role in community service. The signing of this protocol reflects the university’s commitment to its role in environmental development and achieving sustainable development. It is part of a strategy that links scientific research with the needs of the local community, particularly in the fields of water, environment, and energy.

For his part, Eng. Amer Kamal Abu Halawa stated: “We are proud of our partnership with Aswan University, which stands as a leading academic institution in southern Upper Egypt. Through this cooperation, we look forward to developing joint work mechanisms and investing in the outcomes of scientific research to improve the performance of the water and Sanitation sector, in a way that serves citizens and enhances the quality of services provided in Aswan Governorate.”

The protocol stipulates the formation of a joint coordination committee, the organization of workshops and training conferences, joint supervision of master’s and doctoral theses, in addition to the exchange of laboratories and implementation of applied research projects in the fields of water and environment. It also includes discounts for researchers in scientific events and educational field visits for university students to learn about the company’s role.

The protocol will remain in effect for three years, renewable, in accordance with the regulations governing both the university and the company, and aims to achieve integration and cooperation on scientific, environmental, and community levels between the two parties.
