As a part of Aswan University’s distinct activities in implementing the Egyptian vision 2030 and enhancing the efficiency in the field of international collaboration, the university president Prof. Ahmed Ghallab, as well as Dr. Hany Madkour, participated in the inauguration of the Center of Excellence for Water Sciences funded by USAID on Thursday corresponding to 12th Sep. 2019 in the presence of Alexandria governor Prof. Abd Al Aziz Konswah, the minister of higher education, the minister of agriculture, Alexandria university president Prof. Essam Al-Kourdy, the AUC president and the head of USAID’s program in Egypt. It is the biggest funded project in Aswan University by USAID that will cost $ 3000,000 through cooperation between the universities of Washington, California, Santa Cruz, Utah and Temple with Egyptian universities represented in the universities of Ain Shams, Alexandria, Aswan, Beni Seuf and Zagazig.
The Centre concentrates on 3 basic elements (education, research, and exchange) which includes the undergraduate and graduate courses, workshops, research grants, funded scholarships for applied research in the field of water and programs exchange between American and Egyptian universities with more than 350 participating students. The center will concentre also on promoting the long-life sustainable change in water sector through improving water sources management in Egypt, drawing effective policies against water challenges, supporting the government in its vision for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) and improving the quality of life.
