Capacities and infrastructure for Sustainable Food

First: Faculty Farm in Sahary outside the Campus:

  A land for faculty farm was allocated in Sahary, Airport road which occupies about 50 acres opposite to the university. Preparation for the farm started since October 2019 where a strip shaped scheme was made to be a model, educational, service and indicative farm.

It includes the following:

8 greenhouses (9*40 m) and a farm with the following vegetables crops:

  • 2 greenhouses for Okra with an average output of 200 kg per greenhouse
  • 2 greenhouses for strawberry with an average output of 500 kg per greenhouse
  • One greenhouse for Zucchini with an average output of 500 kg per greenhouse
  • One greenhouse for cucumber with an average output of 2 tons per greenhouse
  • One greenhouse for Bell pepper with an average output of one ton per greenhouse
  • One greenhouse for aubergine with an average output of one ton per greenhouse

A greenhouse (36 * 40 m) has been created and is being prepared for cultivation to produce vegetable and ornamental seedlings, with a capacity of 50 thousand seedlings per cycle.

A grape trellis was made on an area of approximately 2 acres planted with the Flame grape, with a production capacity of 3-5 tons per year per acre.

50 Medjool palm trees were planted and preparations are underway to plant 50 other ones with a production capacity of 5-6 tons per year.

Second: Faculty Farm inside Campus in Sahary

On about half an acre a grape trellis was made on an area of ​​about seven acres and was planted with Flame grape with a production capacity of 1.5-2.5 tons per year.

An area was planted with (Kate and Naomi mangoes) with a total of 150 trees with an output capacity of 1.2 – 2 tons.

Third: Faculty Farm in Aneiba (animal and poultry production farm):

The farm occupies ​​about 9 acres allocated to animal and poultry production as an educational research farm. It also aims to provide production to serve the local market in Aswan Governorate. It consists of:

  • 5 barns for poultry production occupying ​​8.5 * 35 m (about 300 m²) per barn, of which (2) ones are ready for operation and 3 other ones are being prepared.
  • 2 barns for sheep and goat production occupying ​​8.5 * 35 m (about 300 m²) per barn are being prepared.
  • 2 barns for animal production occupying 15 * 30 m (about 300 m²) per barn, with a capacity of about 70 animals per barn are being prepared.
  • A unit for automatic slaughter provided with cooling and freezing units connected to the farm is being prepared.

  • Fourth: Bakery Unit:

  A bakery unit was constructed in the faculty equipped with (2) large ovens and other supplies to produce various goods such as pies, Pâté, rusk, oriental sweets and others. It provides Pastry for students and employees with a capacity of 1000 varieties per day.
