
Aswan University seeks to achieve sustainable development goals by promoting and inculcating a culture of sustainability in the university, and promoting social responsibility by increasing sustainability activities and awareness campaigns on campus. The university also seeks to participate in all social initiatives and volunteer programs within the framework of the state’s direction to implement Egypt’s plan and its vision 2030.
And in light of the community participations; Aswan University participated in implementation of Hangamelha “We will beautify it” initiative, in cooperation with Ministry of Manpower, Aswan Governorate, and the Hangamelha (we will beautify it) institution for sustainable development.
Whereas the activities of Hangamelha “We will beautify it” initiative began on 3rd December 2020, by planting lemon trees in the Monastery of Anba Hedra in Gharb Aswan and ancient church, in order to increase the green space by planting fruitful trees in Aswan. Ghallab added that the university is implementing the presidential initiative and working to implement it through the efforts of its students, and this comes within the framework of the vision and strategic plan for sustainable development of the country until 2030. The university is also keen to activate the goals of the initiative to increase the green space in Aswan, as well as develop awareness among university students about The importance of trees and preserving the environment, and he praised this initiative, which contributes to the cultivating one million fruitful trees (lemon, olive and orange) in order to raise the values of beauty and reduce pollution rates.
The initiative aims to cultivate fruitful trees in the university, to have an economic return and have the ability to face climate changes, rationalize the use of water, and replace these trees with wooden trees that consume large amounts of water and without an economic return, stressing that this initiative aims to increase green spaces in Aswan university, and also cultivating these trees is a kind of long-term investment. It also aims to spread the spirit of teamwork among students by participating in voluntary activities such as cultivating trees and other activities.
