Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Osman, Aswan University president, announced the launch of a training program for environmental guides in collaboration with the local platform of the national initiative for the COP27 Climate Change Conference. The program aims to train 50 students from Aswan University as environmental guides. The Career Development Center is committed to producing graduates with the necessary skills for the labor market and providing various employment consultations. A transparent selection process ensured that 150 students applied for the environmental guide training program, with 50 chosen based on established criteria.
Dr. Loai Saad El-Din Nasrat, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, attended the training activities at the Career Development Center located in the new Aswan campus. He noted that 25 teams would be formed, each consisting of one male and one female student. Upon completing the course, each team will organize at least 10 events attended by 100 students. The center will select outstanding students for further training in various professional skills and effective communication, emphasizing the significance of this agreement in preparing environmental guides for Aswan in anticipation of the upcoming climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh this November.
Dr. Ahmed Zaki, General Coordinator of the local platform in Aswan, highlighted that the signing of the memorandum of understanding is part of initiatives targeting a crucial sector of Aswan community—that are university students. They will receive advanced training on climate change, its causes, negative impacts on the world and Egypt, especially Aswan, as well as the effects on agricultural production, public health, and extreme weather events. He stressed the importance of raising awareness among the local population, as they will play a vital role in protecting their community from the adverse effects of climate change and extreme weather events like frost, heatwaves, and floods.
Laila Saadi, Director of the Career Development Center, explained that the University Centers for Career Development project, implemented by the American University in Cairo in collaboration with USAID and the Ministry of Higher Education, began in 2017 and currently involves 13 public universities with 19 centers, aiming to expand to 30 centers across 20 public universities. The project focuses on equipping students with the necessary skills for the labor market, including conducting labor market studies and maintaining a database of students and graduates benefiting from the services provided.
Dr. Shaimaa Kamal Hassan, Employment Officer at the Career Development Center, noted that the center has facilitated over 1,500 job and practical training opportunities in various sectors. Since its opening on January 16, 2020, the center has offered more than 30,000 high-quality training and professional development opportunities and signed nine cooperation agreements with major companies and institutions operating in Aswan.
