NASA Agency announces the winning of Eng. Ayman Ragab Ahmed Hamd Allah-assistant professor at the civil department in Faculty of Engineering with the second place in the international competition For ”Recycling in a Zero Gravity Environment”.
It’s supposed that the wastes of astronauts take a space from storage because they can’t get rid of them in the outer space, the contest was about storage the waste which are considered daily consummation and usage for astronauts like gloves ,tissues, the rests of food, juices, clothes and other wastes because each astronaut in long space flights storages 2.5 tons of waste annually and the space flight includes nearly 4 astronauts in the average of 10 tons annually If there are long flights to March, it takes about 3 years where the wastes reach to 30 tons during one flight.
This is a big damage cost the agency a lot of money where space shuttle has to be big for wastes in addition to environmental problem because of these wastes for years in one year, so innovation and smart laboratories in NASA announces about contest for finding solutions for wastes problem to be an executable idea to place the waste in a tightly sealed area so that the odors and gases do not leak and prepare the waste for entry into the nuclear reactor and analyze and recycle it.
The idea of Eng. Ayman Ragab Ahmed Hamd Allah –assistant professor at civil department in the Faculty of Engineering is Recycle Device which is a small device 80 cm – 80 cm – height of 120 cm” this is one of the conditions and this device storages, contains and transforms logistics waste inside the space shuttles among zero gravity environments, the general idea of device based on using the pressure air and differential pressure to transfer waste instead of gravity.
The aim of the device is storing waste in an isolated chamber and prepares it in the form of small cubes to transfer it to a nuclear reactor to recycle it to the basic materials (gas –water vapor-solids materials).
The device consists of three basic components (sliding container – hydraulic hammers box – multi-directional aerial launcher) which similar to shooting bullets in light weapons.
These components are responsible for implementing the process of preparation, containing and directing in three sequential stages down to nuclear reactor.
