12 scientists from Aswan University are among the top 2% of scientists in the world this year

Prof. Loai Saad El-Din Nasrat, Acting President of Aswan University, announced that 12 Academic staff from the university have been included in the list of the top 2% of the most influential scientists worldwide, based on their overall scientific output and citations of their research in various disciplines. This inclusion is part of a study launched by Elsevier in collaboration with Stanford University.

The Graduate Studies and Research Sector, led by Prof. Mohamed Abdelaziz Mehallal, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, congratulated the university’s scientists who have made it onto this important international list, expressing pride in their excellence and achievements across various fields. He praised their scientific efforts, outstanding research career, and their role in enhancing the university’s status and reputation on global platforms.

The researchers and scientists were classified into two categories:

  • The top 2% of scientists over their professional careers (based on total scientific output)
  • The top 2% of scientists for the year 2023

The latest update of the top 2% of scientists over their careers includes the following Academic Staff from Aswan University:

  1. Prof. Mohamed Nageib Rashid – Faculty of Science, Environment Sciences
  2. Prof. Mohamed Abdelaziz Mehallel Orabi – Faculty of Engineering- field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering  
  3. Prof. Ahmed Mohamed Rashad – Faculty of Science – Field of Mechanical Engineering and Transport
  4. Prof. Ashraf Mohamed Hemaida – Field of Energy.
  5. Prof. Mamdouh Abdel-Akher Mohamed – Field of Energy.
  6. Dr. Salah Mohamed Kamel – Field of Energy
  7. Dr. Karar Mahmoud Badawy Mostafa – Field of Energy

Additionally, Prof. Mohamed Abdelaziz Mehallal announced the inclusion of the following scientists from Aswan University in the list of the top 2% of scientists for 2023:

  1. Prof. Ashraf Mohamed Hemaida – Field of Energy
  2. Prof. Ahmed Thabet Mohamed – Field of Networks and Communications
  3. Prof. Saleh Kamel Hareidi – Field of Artificial Intelligence
  4. Dr. Salah Mohamed Kamel – Field of Energy
  5. Dr. Karar Mahmoud Badawy Mostafa – Field of Energy
  6. Prof. Mohamed Metwally Mahmoud – Field of Energy
  7. Dr. Gaber Magdy – Field of Energy
  8. Dr. Omar Mohamed Abdelrahim – Field of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Dr. Mohamed Orabi clarified that the Stanford Ranking 2024 included nearly 495 professors from various Egyptian universities. This list is the largest of its kind, containing the top 2% of scientists globally across 22 major scientific fields and 176 sub-disciplines.

Prof. Orabi emphasized that the inclusion of 12 scientists from Aswan University is an affirmation of the quality of the university’s research output and the increasing number and impact of research published in prestigious scientific journals listed in global databases. This achievement reflects the support the university provides to researchers to ensure the quality of their scientific research outcomes.
