1.4.4 Policy addressing poverty

Aswan University participates in policymaking at the local, regional, national and global levels to implement programs and policies that aim to eradicate poverty in all its forms through cooperation with local authorities and cooperation with communities to address planning/development issues.

Within the framework of Aswan University’s plan for community service and environmental development, a cooperation protocol was signed between Aswan University and the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. The signing of the protocol comes within the framework of the presidential directive to seek the help of universities and research centers to provide scientific advice because the university represents the house of expertise and considering wasting water resources with old irrigation. Governorate.

The protocol also aims to support development axes, including irrigation, development and agriculture, under the directives of the President of the Republic. The Ministry of Irrigation is carrying out projects to rehabilitate canals and irrigation networks to improve the irrigation situation and reduce water losses, in order to raise the productivity of agricultural lands and support the economy. The Ministry of Irrigation needs to benefit from the scientific and engineering expertise of Aswan University. The Center for Studies and Engineering Consultations at the University To maximize the benefit, a cooperation protocol was signed between the university and the Ministry of Irrigation, in order to carry out studies and designs for those projects with general supervision of works, tests and quality control work.

Protocol objectives:

  1. Contributing to the dairy problem by providing dairy products in Aswan Governorate
  2. The contribution of the project in the educational and training aspect for students of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Aswan University
  3. The students’ contribution to the development of research that contributes to the provision of high-quality dairy products
  4. strengthening the links between Aswan University and the dairy production center in the governorate
  5. Contribute to raising the efficiency and skill of workers in the field of dairy production and processing
  6. The Advisory Council of the Nasr Al-Nubba administration provides a fully equipped laboratory with equipment and tools
  7. A committee shall be formed from both parties to fully supervise production, workers, supervisors and guards

The aim of this agreement:

  1. Developing and strengthening the second cooperation between (the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and universities) in the field of inventorying and classifying lands in all areas that fall within the geographical scope.
  2. Take all necessary measures and steps to study the inventory and classification of lands
  3. Exchanging maps and information needed for the study areas
  4. Participation in field work, collecting samples for analysis, and producing maps of soil characteristics to reach a map suitable for soil suitability for agriculture.
  5. Develop the necessary recommendations according to the characteristics of the soil.

Moreover, Aswan University plays a pivotal role as a key partner in the presidential Decent Life initiative, through several purposeful visions and practical ways to improve the quality of life in the poorest rural communities by reducing multidimensional poverty and unemployment rates. •

The role that Aswan University plays with the local authorities in the “Decent Life” initiative in order to:

  • Providing adequate housing.
  • Providing water and sanitation for disadvantaged families.
  • Providing medical and educational services.
  • Establishing small projects for those in dire need.
  • Providing in-kind support on a regular basis to the neediest families.
  • Identifying the problems and challenges facing rural communities in the city of Aswan through conducting studies, analyzes and developments related to them, for example:
  1. Addressing the causes of the groundwater problem and possible solutions to it in the village of Qastal, Nasr al-Nuba.
  2. Addressing the causes of water leakage and accumulation on the roads in Abu Al-Rish and the High Dam, and possible solutions.
  3. Implementation of scientific, medical, veterinary, agricultural and other convoys in various fields.
  4. Implementation of educational and extension programs.
