For his part, Dr. Ayman Othman emphasized the prominent role played by Faculty of Medicine in this convoy, which includes an international elite of doctors, nurses and assistants within the framework of community service and the provision of medical services to the incapacitated patients and children of Aswan and the governorates of southern Upper Egypt and all regions daily. Aswan University President added that the voluntary and therapeutic surgical medical convoy for the treatment of cleft lip, palate, and congenital defects of the skull for children in the plastic surgery department at Aswan University Hospital included many specialties; Including plastic surgery, pediatric surgery, anesthesia, intensive care, orthodontics, speech, medical laboratories, social care, and medical registration by specialized Egyptian doctors and consultants from abroad from the United States of America, Britain, and Sweden.
In addition, the support of the Mobadla Foundation from the sister country of UAE to Operation Smile International Foundation and its active participation during this convoy is also added as a first experience.
Dr. Mohamed Zaki Al-Dahshouri confirmed that the voluntary surgical medical convoy aimed to repair and perform remedial surgeries for the cleft lip, cleft palate, and to repair the congenital defects associated with this problem of weak speech and its imbalance with the latest surgical and scientific methods.
The convoy is expected to perform between 85 and 120 surgeries for patients with cleft palate, and to examine more than 650 cases from the villages and regions of Aswan and other governorates throughout the week, with health awareness meetings at Aswan University Hospital.
In a related context, Dr. Ashraf Mebed referred to the high turnout of citizens and children of congenital defects, as the university administration, Aswan University Hospital, and the Department of Cosmetology worked to alleviate the suffering of the patients’ families by bearing the burdens of travel to other governorates, and working to receive free treatment within Aswan University hospitals.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Qenawy Musa stated that the surgical, educational and therapeutic medical convoy’s work to treat cleft lip, palate and congenital defects of the skull for children will continue from 27th January 2023 until next Thursday corresponding to 2nd February 2023. Whereas the convoy works to provide complementary surgical, corrective and medical treatment, speech and dental treatment for free, along with conducting the necessary and practical examinations for them.
Dr. Ahmed Qenawy Moussa explained that the convoy includes 92 visitors, including 45 foreign visitors, among doctors, nurses, coordinators and technicians to serve the medical convoy, that its activities were launched from the cosmetic department of Aswan University Hospital that it was able during the last period to work on establishing and organizing this voluntary convoy in cooperation with the medical authorities Participate in improving and providing medical service to patients in a delicate part of the specialization of cosmentic and reconstructive surgeries, facial and maxillofacial surgeries, and congenital anomalies in children, to draw a smile on the faces of children in Aswan governorate and children in southern Upper Egypt governorates.
