Today, Tuesday, Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman, President of Aswan University, witnessed the activities of a scientific symposium organized by the Faculty of Science in Marshal Tantawi Hall under the title “Climate Change” under the auspices of Major General Ashraf Attia, Governor of Aswan, with the participation of the Environmental Affairs Agency in the governorate and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Aswan, in the presence of Dr. Mohamed Abdel Moneim Raslan, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science for Education and Student Affairs, Dr. Alaa Hassan Nour El-Din, Vice Dean of the Faculty for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Dr. Mamdouh El-Sayed, Director General of the Regional Branch of the Environmental Affairs Agency, in the presence of a group of scientists from the Faculty of Science, Dr. Mohamed Naguib Rashid, Dr. Essam Shaalan, Dr. Hassan Khazim, and Ms. Narmin Philip, Director of the Laboratories of the Aswan Branch of the Environmental Affairs Agency. The symposium witnessed a large attendance of university students.

The symposium activities began with the national anthem, and Dr. Ayman Othman stated in his speech after welcoming the attendees about the combined efforts of universities, scientific research and workshops in light of Egypt hosting the Climate Conference “COP 27” next November in Sharm El-Sheikh, which discusses climate change and how to confront it with science and scientific research by working to create an integrated and sustainable environmental system that enhances flexibility and the ability to confront natural and human risks in accordance with Egypt’s Vision 2030.

Dr. Ayman Othman sent a message to university students about preserving their rights to nature in the future by introducing them to the world’s climate changes and global challenges, as well as how to deal with these changes in a way that helps to improve the environment and preserve planet Earth.

The President of Aswan University also praised the role of the Faculty of Science and its scholars in maintaining the university’s scientific ranking at the level of world universities for 4 consecutive years.

Dr. Mohamed Abdel Moneim Raslan added that the symposium’s goal is to raise awareness among society and students about the negative effects of climate change, as well as the ways in which individuals can help to combat these changes, preserve the environment, and understand the official definition of climate change. NASA defines climate change as a broad range of global phenomena driven mostly by the combustion of fossil fuels, which emit heat-trapping gases into the Earth’s atmosphere. These phenomena include the growing temperature trends represented by global warming, as well as changes such as sea level rise, ice mass loss in Greenland, Antarctica, and the Arctic, glaciers all over the world, changes in floral blooming, and extreme weather events.

Dr. Alaa Hassan Nour El-Din, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Science for Community Service and Environmental Development and symposium supervisor, referred to the Faculty of Science, which was founded in 1975 as part of the Assiut University branch in Aswan, with studies beginning in the academic year 1975/1976.

The college continued to provide administrative and scientific leadership to the branch until Aswan University’s independence, which contributed to Aswan University’s scientific classification over the previous four years, allowing Aswan University to rank first among Egyptian universities due to its distinguished scholars. The college teaches fundamental sciences and computer courses to other colleges in accordance with its academic programs. In May 2005, the institution received a project to build an internal quality system. The college formed a section to assure educational quality and accrediting qualifications.
