Medical convoy from Aswan University conducts check-ups for Sudanese brothers at Qustal port

Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Osman, President of Aswan University, stated that within the framework of the efforts made by the Egyptian state in light of the war in the Republic of Sudan, and under the guidance of the political leadership, the medical convoy concluded its activities, organized by Faculty of Medicine at Aswan University in collaboration with the Medical and Relief Committee of the Cabinet. The initiative was under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, president of republic, the Cabinet, Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Major General. Ashraf Attia, Governor of Aswan, Prof. Ayman Osman. The activities commenced on Saturday, May 6, 2023, and concluded with treatment operations on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Qustal port, where a total of 895 cases were examined, with 74 cases transferred to Aswan University Hospitals.

Prof. Ayman Osman added that the medical convoy included five medical specialties to provide free treatment and work to receive and treat our Sudanese brothers, Egyptians, and foreign nationals fleeing the war in Sudan arriving in Aswan via Qustal port.

Dr. Mohamed Zaki El-Dahshouri, Dean of Faculty of Medicine in Aswan, highlighted the medical and therapeutic services provided by the convoy to Sudanese brothers, which align with Aswan University and Faculty of Medicine’s regional and strategic role in serving the local and regional community, and participating in state efforts to address the repercussions of the Sudanese war and assist the brothers arriving from Sudan. Aswan University Hospitals and the convoy included departments of general surgery, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedic surgery, and pediatrics. General surgery doctors examined 114 Sudanese citizens, 58 Egyptian citizens, and transferred 15 cases to Aswan University Hospitals.

Dr. Ashraf Mebed, Executive Director of Aswan University Hospitals, explained that the internal medicine doctors in the convoy examined 173 displaced Sudanese citizens, 109 Egyptian citizens, and 17 cases transferred to the university hospitals. Furthermore, obstetrics and gynecology doctors examined 27 Sudanese cases and 5 Egyptian cases, while orthopedic surgeons examined 134 Sudanese cases and 64 Egyptian cases, transferring 30 cases of fractures and injuries to the university hospitals. Pediatric doctors examined 155 Sudanese children, 57 Egyptian children, and 12 cases transferred to the university hospitals. In total, the number of Sudanese cases examined at Qustal port reached 603, while the total number of Egyptian cases was 292, with 74 referrals, bringing the total number of cases examined by the free medical convoy at Qastal port to 895, with 74 cases transferred to Aswan University Hospitals.
