Aswan university president Prof. Ahmed Ghallab declared that the university is about to hold an international conference entitled ” Biological Diversity and National Security ” where the case study is Lake Nasser to discuss the ways of developing its resources, dams, the future of fish stock, fishermen problems and investment in crocodiles under the patronage of the Prime minister from 24th to 26th Feb. 2020. The Conference will be held under the patronage of the minster of higher education and scientific research Prof. Khaled Abd Al Ghaffar and the chairmanship of Prof. Ahmed Ghallab in addition to the president of Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport Dr. Ismaeil Abd Al Ghaffar.
Prof. Ghallab stressed that Lake Nasser is a guarantee of development in upper Egypt as focusing on it can change the face of Egypt at all the economic and development levels e which will affect positively on stability and national security.
The vice president of graduate studies and research Prof. Ayman Othman valued the significance of studying all about fishing and fisheries as (the future of Toshka depressions in fisheries, promoting industry, the necessity of sustainable development for Lake Nasser and the surroundings) with participation of the relevant institutions and in cooperation with universities as well as international and African organizations to achieve the utmost benefit.
Prof. Emam Abd Al Ghaney Makkawy, professor of fish biology and the chairman of the committees organizing the conference, added that the congress will handle many themes like studying aquaculture and what it includes of hatching and raising fish, the health of marine animals and the relevant subjects like parasitology and bacterial diseases as well as social and economic studies of fishermen, the role of educational institutions and multimedia in managing the culture of biological diversity and sustainable development of river tourism in Lake Nasser.
Dr. Ahmed Abd Al Sadeq Mohammed, conference secretary general, said that there is great interest and several patronages of the conference; Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, Upper Egypt Development Authority and Agriculture Bank of Egypt.
In the same context, conference inauguration was witnessed by Aswan governor Maj. Gen. Ashraf Ateya and a considerable group of university presidents and scientists from all over the globe.
Dr. Osama Mohammed Mahmoud, professor of fish biology in Assiut university’s faculty of science, said that among the themes that will be discussed are fish stock assessment in Lake Nasser, biomass, invertebrates, other animals, assessment of crocodiles stock in the Lake and its effect on fisheries, crocodiles in Egypt, focusing on fish resources, devoting attention to water resources, environmental systems and climate change in Lake Nasser, the dangerous environment for building dams on Nile River, the significance of geological features in the Lake, Plastic Age and its effect on biological diversity in Lake Nasser and the Nile River, toxicology, ecology and pollution management .
