Prof. Ayman Mahmoud Othman – Aswan University President – said that in light of state’s direction for digital transformation and its vision for the year 2030 in supporting the Egyptian university system to promote the educational process, the university’s website was launched in its new version months ago, to be used to enter in the new international ranking competition, wishing to obtain a better position, because maintaining the summit is more difficult than reaching it, and this comes within the framework of the development that the university is witnessing in the scientific research system and the educational system in the university.
Prof. Mohamed Abdelaziz Mehalal_ Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research_ added that Aswan University ranked first at the level of Egyptian universities and 13th in the Arab world in the international rankings for the year 2022/23, according to the report of the American magazine “Times Higher Education”.
Therefore, we had to move forward towards developing the new website and strive to provide all services electronically. The Aswan University website was designed and built using the latest methods and modern technologies to keep pace with the websites of advanced and internationally prestigious international universities.
Dr. Ali Mohamed Abdel Aziz – Director of Aswan University E-portal – indicated that the digital services portal has been activated, through which all university services can be provided in the future, which facilitates the completion of operations and saving expenses. Currently, 4 different services have been provided, first: the software bank, which is a bank that contains original programs from Microsoft, where we were able to provide an original copy of Microsoft Windows for all Aswan University affiliates. The differences between the devices were taken into account, and therefore copies of Windows 11 and 10 were provided for modern devices, and copies of Windows 7, 8 for old devices. Windows 2 Server 2022 and to manage Servers copies were also provided to manage servers, centers and databases. We did not forget to take care of young programmers, as Microsoft Visual Studio Professional Editions and Microsoft Azure copies were provided, which is a cloud computing service that creates, tests, installs and manages applications and services through a global network. From data centers managed by Microsoft and it also supports other operating systems. Thus, the student can build programs and upload them to the server with ease, and he can sell them, and thus he can enter the world of software and get profits as well.
The director of the university’s E-portal explained that Microsoft Office 2021 has been provided in full, and all these services are obtained only by using the university email of Aswan University. This step is considered one of the very important steps for the university, as the government entity must use original copies, as this preserves property rights and copyrights, in addition to reducing hacking, piracy, and cyberattacks, as the presence of non-original Windows copies is one of the most important methods used by hackers to hack devices.
It has also designed, created and launched online digital library services, which provide many services to postgraduate students, such as examining the similarity of thesis title, examining university theses citation, and depositing a university thesis. It also provides many services to academic staff in examining promotion research, examining research before publication, and examining awards and Incentives research to encourage researchers and develop the scientific research process. This step is considered one of the important steps, as we can preserve the moral rights of the research and ensure that the citation rates are within the permissible limits, in addition to linking this service to the Knowledge Bank, and thus benefiting from all research electronically instead of storing it in paper form.
In order for the service applicant to obtain it, he must obtain a university mail affiliated with Aswan University, so we had to provide this service also electronically, whereas the student can enter the Aswan University website, then choose the digital services portal and choose the university mail service, then create a university mail, Accordingly, the email is generated electronically after verifying the validity of the data. After that, the e-mail and its data are retrieved using the national number, as the e-mail has been linked to the national number and the phone number as well.
Work is currently underway to provide the electronic payment service so that we can fully provide the service and enter the global markets, and work is underway to design and create many other applications to facilitate and provide electronic services.
